I am delighted to welcome you to our rapidly improving school, Rushden Academy. We are part of a highly successful trust called Tove Learning Trust (TLT) and have excellent collaborative networks across the trust. Staff really enjoy working at Rushden Academy and our high staff retention figures demonstrate this fully.

Team Rushden are on the cusp of something great, our results are rapidly improving and our intake numbers are increasing. Visitors are impressed when they visit our school commenting on the strong Team Rushden values permeating across all aspects of school life. We have built a culture where together, students and staff are united in transforming our school.

We are proud of our achievements to date and regularly communicate this widely. There is a strong drive to excel in lessons and to behave respectfully towards each other and our community. We are proud of the curriculum that we have on offer, not only does it deliver the content pupils need to excel in today’s society but it also develops their imaginations.

Our sixth form provision, The East Northamptonshire College (TENC), is shared with two local secondary schools, sharing our expertise not only at KS5 but also at KS4 with cross moderation and quality assurance systems. We also have an outstanding nursery onsite, which is open term-time only and many of our staff use this excellent provision for their children.

We had a lovely theme to our assembly this week cementing our Team Rushden values and sharing with pupils the importance of team work and doing the right thing for other people.

There has been a significant improvement towards litter around site, which is good. We have had to collect less and less, and many of our pupils, particularly year 7 pupils have been very eager to help. Our environment is constantly improving and the site team work very hard to maintain standards.

The weather continues to be kind to us and the field has remained open, but soon we will be back in doors and so we are further developing our extra-curricular programme to include many new lunchtime clubs which will be shared in due course.

The fire drill today was swift and effective, year 7’s were well rehearsed and the whole of Team Rushden did us proud. Less than 5 minutes to register every member of Team Rushden and collate, it was like a military operation.

A very warm welcome back to you all, I trust that you had a good family break, relaxed together and maybe even enjoyed some shopping expeditions to Rushden Lakes. I certainly did and was amazed to see so many of our pupils working there and deservedly so. They portrayed the perfect retail skills, smiling, being incredibly polite and attending to customers incredibly maturely. There are so many great opportunities for our youngsters and it is literally on the door step, I think we are very lucky.

The school has been a hive of activity over summer, the English department has had a make-over, there are new windows in the main corridor of the school, a new boiler amongst other projects being completed too. We are so keen to improve our environment and with a lack of money it is always a challenge to say the least. That’s why it is crucial that we look after what we have and that’s exactly why respect and smartness are part of Team Rushden values.
