Well Being

At Rushden Academy, we are committed to support all students both academically and with their emotional health and well-being.

The government have set out in their green paper Transforming Young People’s Mental Health Provision (2017) that all schools and colleges should have a named designated lead for mental health by 2020. Our lead for mental health is Mrs Paula Smith, who is also our SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) and Lead DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead).

We take the mental health of our students seriously and acknowledge the important role we play by promoting and modelling good emotional well-being across the whole school – this is at the centre of what we do.

We are keen to identify early signs of distress and offer appropriate support via our Heads of Years or bespoke provision (HUB) to meet the needs of our individual students to enable them to feel as settled as possible and to reach their potential through often difficult times.

Across the School

We offer a number of bespoke services within school to help build resilience and provide coping strategies for those who do struggle with their mental health. We have an excellent reporting system and staff are vigilant when responding to concerns or worries raised by students, and sometimes parents about their children.

If you are concerned about the mental health or general well-being of a student then please contact Mrs Paula Smith to discuss.
