I am delighted to welcome you to our rapidly improving school, Rushden Academy. We are part of a highly successful trust called Tove Learning Trust (TLT) and have excellent collaborative networks across the trust. Staff really enjoy working at Rushden Academy and our high staff retention figures demonstrate this fully.

Team Rushden are on the cusp of something great, our results are rapidly improving and our intake numbers are increasing. Visitors are impressed when they visit our school commenting on the strong Team Rushden values permeating across all aspects of school life. We have built a culture where together, students and staff are united in transforming our school.

We are proud of our achievements to date and regularly communicate this widely. There is a strong drive to excel in lessons and to behave respectfully towards each other and our community. We are proud of the curriculum that we have on offer, not only does it deliver the content pupils need to excel in today’s society but it also develops their imaginations.

Our sixth form provision, The East Northamptonshire College (TENC), is shared with two local secondary schools, sharing our expertise not only at KS5 but also at KS4 with cross moderation and quality assurance systems. We also have an outstanding nursery onsite, which is open term-time only and many of our staff use this excellent provision for their children.

Tove Trust have visited again this week, we are already making strong connections with Sponne School and have an amazing opportunity to learn from the best and gain resources to use. Team Rushden are absolutely determined to continue raising standards and firmly believe that team work is crucial, we want all our stakeholders to play a part in our journey to outstanding J2O. We have a vibrant student body that make decisions for our school and we want a larger parent forum who are willing to get involved in aspects of school decision making too. Turning a school around takes time, last summer the Attainment 8 scores were much improved from a poor baseline, so more pupils gained a standard 4 GCSE (old C grade) than previous years. However, the government Progress 8 measure was not good, this means that pupils may have met a standard 4 but did not meet their target grades, which were higher.

Exciting times ahead for Team Rushden; the listening period ended on the 18th January which means no more comments can be submitted to the DFE regarding the trust transfer. The evidence will now be considered and decisions made regarding the next steps, which you will be informed about.

Building work has started on site and we anticipate completion by the end of February. We are making good some of the walk way areas, and building a fence down the side of the school to increase security. Reception will be moved to the vocational centre and we will be increasing parking spaces to cope with demand.

This week our vocational course offer and delivery was inspected successfully, thank you to Mr Brotherston and the departments who deliver BTECs. This is really important for us as we carefully consider what the best curriculum offer is for our pupils.
