Message From the Principal 27.03.2026

Dear Families,

It has been a busy final week in school as we prepare for the Easter holiday! In tutor time, students have been recapping their learning on democracy as part of their studies on British Values. As part of this work, they have been exploring the different roles in Government and nominating members of staff who they think should lead the country! This has been a fun and engaging way to learn that aligns with our trauma-informed approach, specifically focusing on the "Playfulness" aspect of PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy). We hope you enjoy the pictures on social media!

Student Leadership Team

As our Year 13 students begin to prepare for their final exams, it is time for the Student Leadership Team to transition to our next group of amazing students. Our Sixth Form candidates went through a rigorous application and interview process conducted by Mr. Ross and Mrs. Knox. We are delighted to announce that the following students will form the leadership team after Easter:

  • Head Students: Harvey P and Carmel S
  • Events Team Leader: Lucie S
  • Events Team: Trinity G, Lucy C, Laura P, Freddie L
  • Student Support: Harry B, Alex A, Kaiden B, Bhumika S
  • Liaison Leaders: Kingsley N, Alexia S, Harry T, Neo S

Rewards

This week, year groups have been celebrating their achievements in end-of-term rewards assemblies. It has been fantastic to see so many students recognized for their excellent work, commitment to learning, and high attendance, as well as the impressive projects many of our students undertake outside of school. We also celebrated those who have worked hard on the Rushden STARR awards, with a number of badges and ties awarded this week. Well done to every recipient, and a huge thank you to those students who continue to work hard and do the right thing every day, we are proud of you all!

#FixBBlock

Our PTFA has been working hard to support the school regarding the ongoing issues with B Block. Following a recent meeting, they have prepared a template that you can share with the Schools Minister, Georgia Gould MP, to raise awareness with the central government regarding the lack of support and funding. We will share a QR code containing all the information you need to support this campaign. Thank you to the PTFA and to all of you for your ongoing support.

Reports

Reports will be shared shortly so you can review your child’s progress this term. This information is designed to help you understand how well your child is performing in lessons. Where subjects use percentages, you will be able to see how your child performed in comparison to the year group’s average score.

For students in Year 10, this will be the last report in this format. Students will receive full grades in all subjects at the end of the academic year following their mock exams in June. More details regarding these exams will be shared next term.

Year 10 Progress Evening

The Year 10 Progress Evening will take place on 16th April. We are working closely with the local authority and healthcare services to provide access to support and catch-up immunisations. This is especially important in light of the recent meningitis outbreak in Kent.

We will share more details as they become available; however, the intention is for healthcare staff to be on hand to speak with families and offer students any missed vaccines while they are on-site. We are committed to working with all agencies to ensure our students remain safe and healthy.

We have achieved so much this term, and we want to thank you again for your continued support of Rushden Academy. We hope you all have a wonderful Easter break and enjoy catching up with family and friends.

If you need to contact the school over the holiday, contact details can be found on our website. Students also have the details for our safeguarding mobile phone number, which is also listed on the website should you or your child urgently need to reach a member of the team.

Have a lovely break! We look forward to seeing all students back in school on Monday, 13th April at 8:25 AM, ready for line-ups at 8:30 AM.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. J. Firth

Principal
