Dear Families,
It has been an incredible week at Rushden Academy, with so many great events and opportunities for students. I hope this newsletter gives you a flavour of what has been taking place this week, but please do visit our social media channels for more details, and to see photos of the students in action!
Rewards Evening
On Thursday evening we held our annual rewards evening, celebrating the excellent achievements of our students over the last academic year. These evenings always fill me with pride, seeing our students being celebrated for their hard work, dedication to learning, and demonstrating our #TeamRushden values of Serve, Thrive, Aspire, Resilient, and Respect. Faculty leaders shared wonderful speeches about the students who were nominated for rewards, and it was brilliant to see their faces when they realised from the speech who had won the values award for each faculty area.
We will continue to reward and celebrate the amazing achievements of our students using #TeamRushden Points (TRPs), and we will continue to share our weekly top students via social media.
Social Action Squad (SAS) Week
Another highlight of the school calendar is our SAS week. Our Ethos Team youth worker, Rosie, has worked incredibly hard organising the events for this week which included a community litter pick, further development to our wellbeing garden, and a sewing project that supports children around the world. It has been a phenomenal week seeing students engage with these projects, knowing that they are helping others not only in school, but for our local and global communities. This is a perfect example of students demonstrating our value of Serve.
Team Rushden STARR Awards
Continuing our theme of rewards and celebrations, it has been brilliant seeing the number of students achieving their Bronze badges for demonstrating our school values. Students have continued to work hard on collecting their badges by working through a series of mini-tasks and positive actions, such as litter picking, attending extra curricular clubs, and getting zero NNs for two consecutive weeks. These actions demonstrate their commitment to #TeamRushden, and a commitment to develop themselves as confident, self-assured individuals. We look forward to seeing students working hard to achieve their bronze ties, before embarking on the criteria to achieve their Silver badges and tie!
Assembly
Mrs Ogilvie has delivered our assemblies this week on the theme of marginal gains. Mrs Ogilvie showcased the work of the Olympic cycling team, who applied this concept to become a super power in Olympic and competitive cycling. The idea of making small changes to things you do daily leading to much bigger overall improvements is something that we can all consider and reflect on. What small things can you do differently each day that could lead you to performing better at work, securing that promotion you have been working hard for, or simply creating more time to spend with your family?
Finally, we are super proud of the whole team for their amazing efforts last Friday for the MacMillan Coffee morning. This is such an important charity, who do so much amazing work for people living with cancer and their families. Students raised just over £300 for the charity, and this couldn’t have been done without your kind support on the day. It was also a pleasure to judge the cake competition with some amazing entries. Well done to our winner Libby for her amazing Wicked-themed cake!
We hope you all have a fantastic weekend, please take care and we look forward to seeing all students on Monday morning.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. J. Firth
