Academy News Stories

Message From the Principal 04.09.2026

Dear Families,

We hope that you have had a lovely summer! It has been brilliant to see students back in school, excited to see the changes to the site and looking incredibly smart in their school uniform. We would like to welcome all of our new families to #TeamRushden, and we hope that all new students have had a great first few days with us. We look forward to finding out more about your child and supporting them through their journey with us.

I hope that the newsletter this week provides you with a few back-to-school updates, providing clarity and further information for the return to school. Please do not forget to follow us on Facebook or Instagram as we share our weekly newsletters via these platforms, as well as via email each week. We also produce a weekly video newsletter, providing an alternative way to engage with the content we share.

ParentPay (Year 7s Only)

ParentPay, the company that processes payments for food in school, has had a number of issues this week which have prevented new students from purchasing food in the canteen. We shared a social media post outlining these issues on Thursday. Please be assured that we will feed any child who needs to eat. Once we know more, we will let you know.

Uniform Updates

Please remember that blazers are now optional and students do not have to wear these if they choose not to.

Where students wear a jumper, this must be the school logo version, no alternatives. We appreciate that supplies have been low and some families are still struggling to get these. In this instance, we hope one of the following suggestions is suitable:

  • Your child could wear a t-shirt under their shirt to give them an extra layer, or

  • Your child could wear a blazer for the short term to give them another layer. We have plenty of spare blazers that students can use if required. Students will need to speak to their form tutor or PSA in the morning to collect one.

We would also like to remind you that hoodies, sports tops, tracksuit tops, leisurewear, sportswear, and other branded sweatshirts do not meet the standard and are not allowed to be worn in school.

Given the recent news about the winter weather forecast and the reduced indoor space in school, we strongly urge families to purchase a suitable winter coat for students. This must be plain in colour, and large or prominent logos are not permitted.

MCAS

New families should have received an email this week providing instructions on how to access our online platform for parents, MCAS (My Child At School). The link you receive is only valid for 24 hours, so we will re-send a link to those who may have missed it at the end of the school day on Friday. Should you have any concerns, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we can get this sorted for you. Don’t forget to download the mobile app for this.

Eco-Team Success

We would like to congratulate our Eco-Team for achieving the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with Distinction! Students had to complete a number of activities both in school and in the wider community, along with creating new policies for the school to adopt. This has been a huge amount of work and we are incredibly proud of our students for gaining this important accreditation for our school and community.

Contacting School

Please remember that the best way to contact the school is by either calling reception or emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or your child's form tutor. We encourage parents not to contact the school via social media channels. We will always aim to reply to messages where possible, but social media channels are not monitored regularly and we do not want your message to be missed.

We hope these updates provide you with key information to support the return to school, and we look forward to seeing all students on Monday, ready for line-up at 8:25am.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. J. Firth

Principal
