Thank you for visiting!

I am delighted to welcome you to our rapidly improving school, Rushden Academy. We are part of a highly successful trust called Tove Learning Trust (TLT) and have excellent collaborative networks across the trust. Staff really enjoy working at Rushden Academy and our high staff retention figures demonstrate this fully.

Team Rushden are on the cusp of something great, our results are rapidly improving and our intake numbers are increasing. Visitors are impressed when they visit our school commenting on the strong Team Rushden values permeating across all aspects of school life. We have built a culture where together, students and staff are united in transforming our school.

We are proud of our achievements to date and regularly communicate this widely. There is a strong drive to excel in lessons and to behave respectfully towards each other and our community. We are proud of the curriculum that we have on offer, not only does it deliver the content pupils need to excel in today’s society but it also develops their imaginations.

Our sixth form provision, The East Northamptonshire College (TENC), is shared with two local secondary schools, sharing our expertise not only at KS5 but also at KS4 with cross moderation and quality assurance systems. We also have an outstanding nursery onsite, which is open term-time only and many of our staff use this excellent provision for their children.

Assemblies this week have been about what it means to belong to a team, valuing differences between people because we all have different skills, no-one has a perfect set of skills and it’s important to have a range of skills; to know the rules, the Team Rushden expectations, Ready to Present, uniform expectations and then knowing the goals: good behaviour so we can LEARN, good teaching so we can LEARN, achieve great GCSE results, participate in outstanding physical and dramatic events, compete and win competitions and go on fabulous extra-curricular trips.

Thank you to parents who were able to attend the The Tove Trust presentation on Tuesday evening, there is a presentation available for parents that could not make it and if you have any questions please do make contact us. Their straight talking approach and wealth of experience stands Rushden Academy in good stead. As you are aware from recent Ofsted monitoring visits we are on track and making significant improvements. Once we join with Tove Trust it will be business as usual for us but with the added luxury of getting sound advice, support, challenge and resources. Team Rushden have made major improvements but we must continue to grow; already outstanding Tove Math’s and Science specialists have visited and will be continuing to link with us to add capacity.

This week has been exceptional! It started with the poor weather and a huge snow clearance from the site team to make sure our site was safe. We were determined to re-open, what with year 11 mocks and the pantomime we just could not wait another minute to get started. This week Father Christmas with his elves on a sleigh visited Stanwick collecting money for charity. It was very festive and the local residents donated generously. Our pupils once again gave up their time in freezing conditions to help others.

Thursday we had a visit from a local primary school to see this year’s panto, Puss in Boots, as ever a spectacular performance. Well done to Mrs Ede and the performing arts team; there were some fabulous performances from our pupils. On Thursday we also opened up the hall to the community for an annual Tea Dance, great dancing took place, our own Strictly come Dancing!

Next week it will be business as usual, I expect lessons to be focused and much learning to continue until the last moment on Wednesday. Pupils will be in lessons 1 to 4 on Wednesday, they will have lunch, then register with their form tutors before being dismissed at 2.10pm. Pupils will return on Thursday 4th January in the correct uniform please. Pupils will also be set homework so they don’t get too rusty over the 2 week period! However it is a time for family and rest so the homework situation should not be excessive.
