There are all kinds of instruments you can learn to play here at Rushden. These are some, but not all of them:

Double Bass

Acoustic and Electric Guitar

Bass Guitar

Lessons are once a week for 33 weeks of the academic year. Most of our teachers are from Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust.

If you have lessons you may want to take exams. Your instrumental teacher will guide you through the process. Most exams are run by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music or by Trinity Guildhall.

If you can play an instrument or sing you can take part in our extra-curricular groups which, this year, includes an award-winning Folk Band run by our violin teacher Jan Armstrong. You can also audition to become members of county groups as many of our students have done, or attend the Saturday Music and Arts Centre run by the Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust – the Rushden and Ferrers area centre is held at Ferrers Music Centre each week.

Our students also form the band for our school shows each year, playing for musicals such as We Will Rock You, Footloose, Little Shop of Horrors and Grease; as well as pantomimes and plays (most recently The Snow Queen). We also have concerts and showcases that you can play in, and we go out into the community to perform. Each year our students compete in the Rotary Young Musician of the Year Competition which is a very highly regarded national competition.
