Congratulations to 6th Form students N’dea Bartlette, Lucas Brawn and Alicia Ellis for achieving their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award.
The aim of this prestigious award is to help young people develop a whole range of skills and attributes such as resilience, confidence, commitment, drive, self-awareness, empathy, team working and problem solving, which support them in navigating adult life. Our students have been working hard towards the Bronze award over a 6 month period which culminated in a 2 day expedition. The external assessor said of Alicia, ‘she showed leadership by guiding her team whilst allowing others to use their own navigation skills, acting as a check to ensure the team was on the right path’.
It has been a pleasure to read the comments from members of the local community who assessed the students in their chosen activities and the most used phrase was ‘polite and respectful’. N’dea volunteered in a local nursing home where the manager commented ‘ N’dea was kind and courteous and had a gentle manner to our residents’.
Congratulations again and to all those students who have signed up for the Bronze award, you can do it and just think of the new experiences you will have and the friendships you will make.
