The clouds dispersed and the sun shone on Team Rushden last Monday as we collectively remembered those that gave their lives for our freedom. We were joined by guests some of whom were military veterans who had such amazing stories to tell. One gentleman who was 96 years young shared his own upbringing; he was one of 12 and said they were as poor as church mice but the values his mother instilled in him, he continues to stand by today, and they were: don’t lie because it’ll catch you out, if you can’t find it in the co-op (no large supermarkets back then) you don’t need it and finally respect the police. He was such a fantastic man who served our country and received an OBE, we also met with an MBE too. Some of our pupils dressed in their air and army cadet uniforms along with pupils in guides and scouting uniforms further added to the magnificence of the service and joined our guests for tea and biscuits. Our guests were very complimentary about their politeness and kindness. Later in the bulletin there will be photos to see.

This week we also welcomed back our pupils who had been on a trip to Germany. They had clearly had a wonderful time immersing themselves in German culture and had behaved impeccably whist away. We have also had a trip to a Butterfly museum and a trip to Kimbolton School, I understand that one pupil, who is a keen first aider and supports St John’s Ambulance was able to showcase his skills and impress others at the school. Again, I am sure there will be photos to see later in this edition. Next week we look forward to our Learning for Life Day and wish our Year 9 well when representing the school at the World Skills event in Birmingham.

Today we are showing our support for Children in Need with all contributions from our annual non-uniform day going to this fantastic cause. Thank you for supporting this cause and continuing to support and work with us.
