Good afternoon

We were pleased to welcome so many guests to Rushden Academy this week. We had our annual Careers Fair on Thursday and our pupils met with a significant number of businesses both local and national, some were offering apprenticeships and were happy to come back and work with some of our pupils in preparing them with the soft skills required to secure a job or course later in life. We will take them up on this kind offer! There were university and college representatives at the event too offering a huge range of courses. It was good to see the Navy, Royal Marines, RAF and Army present. In addition the civil service was also represented as well. Pupils discussed their ideas and aspirations and many took away booklets to carefully look through. If you have something to offer or even a contact who could help our community then we really want to know. Could you please email This email address is being protected from spambots. We have also welcomed year 5 pupils in this week to sample PE, Art and Music lessons. They had lunch in the school canteen and met many of our teachers. This is a really good experience for our existing pupils, teaching others is often one of the best ways to learn information for yourself and we have resources and specialist teachers here that you often do not find in primary schools. It is great to think that our primary pupils can really benefit from the experience. It is also important that Rushden Academy has every opportunity to shine because I am so proud of what we do on a daily basis. This week I invited an ex-teacher in to have a look around. Having left us 3 years ago she stated what a huge difference we have made and how happy and calm the school was. We do not boast to be perfect, no-one and nothing is, but we do care about what we do, we are always willing to listen and always aim to act in the interests of all who are part of our Team.

Finally, just to add that over the Easter Holiday many of our teachers will be delivering Year 11 revision lessons, the programme is at the back of this bulletin but paper copies will be issued to Year 11 pupils. If pupils are attending they will need to sign in at student reception and note that the main toilet block will be out of action over Easter, (hand sanitizing wipes have been installed now as the current sinks are absolutely rubbish). We cannot wait to make the improvements. Year 11 must be practicing past paper questions and revising on a regular basis, having a power hour a day will help set the good routines. 7 weeks on Monday the intense exam period kicks in, so there really is no time to waste. We have taken the decision to allocate the food tech area as a designated area for Y11 to go for quiet revision before school, at break and at lunchtime. We have staff to hand that can help with exam stresses in the hub area and if pupils buy breakfast they get free water bottles, being hydrated really helps to maintain concentration levels. If we have missed a trick that will help further please do not hesitate to get in touch, we cannot do this effectively without your input.

Once again thank you for reading and thank you for supporting the team.

Mrs J Burton

Principal
