Good afternoon

I met with the new catering company this week and they are very keen to work with us to get it right, we have noticed an increased variety of healthy food every day. But what we have asked for is an increased number of cheaper options available at lunchtime too. The meal deal is very good value and pupils need to look out for these. At breakfast time if pupils buy some food the caterers will provide a bottle of water free.

We are wondering if all pupils are claiming their free school meals and would like to encourage and support you do this, can you please contact student services so that we can help you do this. Using the thumb system no-one is the wiser who and who is not receiving these. Don’t forget to use the Aspens App.  This will give you up to date menu information.

https://www.aspens-services.co.uk/schools/rushden-academy/ The code for the App is 58164801.

During the Easter holiday the main toilets are being upgraded, we really appreciate the pupils’ patience with this. We will also be starting to improve the IT system with new cabling, switches and servers over the next few weeks. We are at the tender process again with regards to our flat roofs which need some attention and the windows in performing arts and design need replacing. It is so important that we care for our school and the environment to maintain a decent standard for the team.

Just wanted to thank Year 8 parents for attending parents evening last night and the very positive comments we received as a school, it means a lot and is such a boost for our teachers. We had a staggering 87.3% turn out. It was an important evening especially with the upcoming deadline for options, hopefully you can now use the feedback to help our pupils make excellent decisions about the subjects they would like to take further.

Year 11 conducted themselves very well during the mock exam period, we complimented them on their conduct, for bringing revision guides in for last minute revision and for having the appropriate equipment. Our external invigilators were most impressed! The intention now is for teachers to identify the gaps in understanding and plug them before the real exams. Year 11 must complete their corrections and apply their knowledge to new questions. It is hard to believe that for the majority of our pupils their GCSE exams will be complete 3 months today! So we cannot waste a minute, every day they should be revising, a power hour of focus will make all the difference.

Thank you for taking the time to read my update.
