Welcome to the 10th edition

Learning for Life day was a great success on Friday, the pupils participated in lots of meaningful work which included ‘Sex & Relationships Education’. Our entire year 9’s spent the day off site fully immersed in the World Skills event at the NEC, Birmingham and once again behaved impeccably. I am also very pleased that we contributed a significant amount of money to Children in Need too, raising close to £500 as a result of running a Mufti Day.  Thank you to everyone who donated.

Last week we reviewed the work of our English department and we were pleased with the positive features, especially the comments made by pupils about the subject as well as the level of engagement seen in lessons visited. This week we will be reviewing the Maths department. Maths have received so many positive comments from senior leaders, but as ever we strive to improve and have set ourselves some further targets.

Feedback from TENC college students were also incredibly positive this week, it is really suiting our year 12 pupils who are embracing the challenge and rigour of post-16 courses. Their comments mirror the comments on the video that we have on the website, which is certainly worth a look if you haven’t yet seen it. We are very lucky to be able to offer a wide range of subjects here and outcomes are good. Could I remind  parents that there is a year 12 tutor evening scheduled this week.

In other news our students represented themselves well this week on the ‘Les Miserables’ theatre trip to Leicester, I believe that some students and staff found it quite emotional! Although perhaps not quite at the same theatrical level, we are really looking forward with anticipation to this year’s pantomime being held at Rushden Academy.

Finally, as the nights draw in, I strongly wish to remind our pupils to travel home safely especially on bikes. Reflective gear and lights are a must especially keeping tight to the left hand side on the roads. I would also like to remind pupils of the danger of adding strangers to online communications. Parents please monitor the use of social media and inform us immediately of any concerns. Please talk to your children about these things and encourage them to act and think ‘safe’. Let’s continue to work together to keep our youngsters safe in our community.

Have a good week

Mrs J Burton
