In year 9 you will build on the key ideas you have learnt about in years 7 and 8. This is broken down into twelve slightly shorter topics than in years 7 and 8. Again these cover aspects of Biology, Physics and Chemistry. The focus is still on how we can apply and use the science in our lives and in the world around us. These are just some of the topics you will be looking at.

Crime scene investigations – Just who did murder your teacher? You will learn to look at the clues and how we can use science to solve crimes.

Flying materials – This topic looks at all the different types of materials we use in the world today. How can we design new materials for new applications? Did you know that dental braces contain “smart alloys” that remember their shape?

Dam it – Anyone fancy laying on a bed of nails? Although you wont need to, you will learn why it is possible to. This topic is all about pressure forces and how we can use them, from dams to the brakes in a car.

Supporting your Child

Encourage students to use and complete their homework on Edmodo. Additional support materials are also placed on here for students to use in preparation for assessments. We also strongly encourage students to watch science based programmes on television as this helps them to gain a wider base of understanding in terms of how science is applied and its importance to society.
