The department offers exceptional trips which extend your knowledge of the country and out your language in the real world.

Kiara Year 10

Learning languages is a great way to connect with people around the world and the languages department at RCC really helps with not just learning the language but understanding it as well.

Ellis Year 10

Supporting your Child

Parents can help with your language learning in many ways:

  • Vocabulary tests – ask them to check your spelling. Do you know what the words mean?
  • Speaking tests – can they listen to you as you memorize and practice your role play or presentation?
  • Looking for a family holiday? Lots of our students have been to France, Germany or Spain because they are studying that language.

In French, we follow the “Studio” French course in KS3 using the Active-Teach in class and Active-Learn for homework. All students have access to this and they can use it on their computers, tablets and mobile phones. Parents can also support students at home by helping memorise new vocabulary learnt in lessons, checking understanding, spellings and use in a sentence. Homework is logged on Show My Homework which can be checked at home.

At KS4, we move on to the Pearson Edexcel GCSE course, Active-Teach and Active-Learn are still used in class and for homework. Revision guides and books can be purchased through us, and these support the exam preparation process.
