Year 7 Catch up Funding is given to schools to help support students who gained the lowest scores at KS2 to make accelerated progress in English and Mathematics in Year 7.

The funding is £14,700. This has been used to part fund additional Teaching Assistant Support.

The Mathletics maths programme has also been purchased to support identified students.

The Bedrock programme has been purchased to improve the literacy and vocabulary skills of identified students.

Both programme are tracked in order to identify progress.

During the academic year 2017/18, we are extending our provision available to students through the support of the numeracy and literacy TAs, the SEND team and our Librarians.

This includes:

  • In class and small group support in English and mathematics, provided by two members of staff.
  • Use of Accelerated Reader which supports an increase in reading age and literacy.
  • Lexia provision, for a targeted cohort of students in Year 7, which supports other aspects of literacy.
  • Learn to learn lessons with Head of Year which supports all aspects of learning.

Bespoke, intensive support, depending on individual needs.

  • Small group Maths intervention
  • Small group English intervention

Small group mentoring, where feedback from staff in books, is discussed and acted upon.

Review – May 2018

Twenty-one students have been targeted for this additional support. This is the entire cohort of low ability students in year 7. Seven of these have been identified for numeracy and fifteen for literacy.

Data from our second assessment point shows that:

All those students, who have been identified as being below average ability are on or above their current flight path target, so making more than expected progress in English.

All those students, identified as being below average ability, in maths, students are above or on their current flight path target, so making more than expected progress in Maths.

Next steps: regroup intervention sessions so those not making accelerated progress have more bespoke time, ensure teachers are providing additional feedback and support in class and for homework.
