Last week saw the return of the National Enterprise Challenge team to Rushden Academy with both years 8 & 10 facing 2 very different challenges. Y8 were set the challenge of creating a new exhibition at Kidzania London. Students had to decide what type of industry they would include and who would run and sponsor it. Students had to complete many different activities to prepare themselves for a final presentation to a panel of judges.

The Y10 task involved teams of 5 to 6 students creating a marketing strategy for Rymanns stationary, preparing for a final presentation by completing a series of challenges. The final presentations were a fanatic standard with posters, performances and even a rap.

The challenges themselves are designed to build confidence within students by working in small teams and taking on specific responsibilities such as teamwork, communication, working with different people and time management. The students clearly responded well to the activity and the buzz and excitement in the room at times was infectious.

Speaking with the NEC team during and after both days it was clear how impressed the team were with students from the Academy and how they totally committed to the challenge and quiet literally gave it their all. The team leader said that students from Rushden Academy could go on to achieve big things if they continue to work as hard as they did over the challenges.

The feedback received from the students was also very encouraging with 96% of Y10 students now seeing the importance of teamwork and communication and 79% of Y8 students being more confident working in a team.
