On the 17th November 45 year 9 students visited the Skills Show at the NEC in Birmingham. The event enabled students to look first hand at the different careers and educational opportunities available to them ranging from engineering, construction, forensic science, catering & hospitality and many more.
Students had the opportunity to speak to people within the different industry sectors, undertake some practical activities and witness competition finals in many of the industry sectors. During the return trip back to the Academy it was clear how many students had been inspired by careers they had not previously considered. Some students also made links with colleges and other providers for them to consider after Y11, not to mention all the freebees that they had collected during the day.
It is hoped that this event will help our students to feel better informed about the opportunities that are available to them, make better careers choices and widen their horizons to the many different opportunities that exist within the UK careers market.
