5th January 2021
We hope that this letter finds you and your family well. There is certainly a lot to contend with at the moment but the underlying matter is that we must stay safe, look after each other and protect the NHS.
I cannot imagine how stressful it must be for those working on the front-line in hospitals, they/you are doing a remarkable job. We will get through this, there is so much hope with the vaccinations and we are certainly looking forward to the sunnier days ahead.
Here is a quick summary of the information we have received from the Government:
- During the period of national lockdown, schools will remain open to vulnerable children and the children of critical workers only.
- Public vocational exams and assessments scheduled to take place in January will go ahead as planned.
- All other children and students will learn remotely until February half term.
- The government do not think it is possible for exams to go ahead fairly this summer. The Secretary of State for Education will be asking Ofqual to consult rapidly on an approach for alternative arrangements that will allow students to progress fairly.
We can only control what we can so in the meantime please help to support your children at home to access work via Google Classroom or Virtual Lessons. Through a Government initiative we are able to support some families with a laptop and dongle; we plan to deliver these over the next coming days but you will be advised first. If you are experiencing IT issues and your children cannot access the work please contact the Head of Year in the first instance.
We will keep in touch, this is not an easy time for anyone but by working together we can make the journey more manageable. Thank you for your understanding, we wish you all the very best going forward.
Mrs J Burton
