You say, we listen and we act.

First of all you may have noticed that the last few bulletins have been emailed on Monday’s to give us time to ensure photos and correspondence meets GDPR regulations. However, a parent commented that her time to read this was at the swimming pool on a Saturday and receiving them on a Monday meant that she did not read it, so we’ve improved our system in school and will return to emailing on a Friday. We do not want to miss any opportunity of sharing with you Team Rushden’s fantastic work.

Secondly, last week you may recall that I mentioned the need to educate our pupils on how to bike safely on the busy roads especially as the weather and lighting is not great at theis time of year. A parent kindly emailed some further (correct) guidance as follows:

Since then we have sourced some funding from Northants County Council to offer students in year 7, 8 and 9 a free bikeability course which we are looking to run between the New Year and Easter. Mrs Blackmore is leading on this. Great news for our youngsters. I am thrilled that year 11 are actively attending period 6’s now, staff are delivering really worthwhile revision sessions that cannot be missed. A reminder that pupils should be using GCSEPod to further support their studies. We will be selling revision guides, significantly cheaper than in the high street for use at home, great stocking fillers?! More information to follow.

We are also in the process of tendering for the catering contract here. Basically companies are putting proposals forward for us to consider and the one selected will then operate as a business within our school. The kitchen staff tend to remain but things like the environment, the menu, the food offer and costs may change. I would really appreciate some quick feedback on what you want as a parent so next week I will send out a Survey Monkey and would welcome your feedback to guide me during this process. We will also be inviting some pupils to contribute their ideas too. It is a really exciting time at Rushden Academy, we are as ever improving and determined to be the absolute best!

Have a great weekend.

Principal
