Welcome back

I am really thrilled that our year 9 pupils got to see Tim Peake’s Spacecraft tour when the Science touring exhibition came to Rushden Academy this week. Our pupils used virtual reality to experience what it feels like to sit inside the Soyuz’s descent module as it makes its dangerous high-speed journey back to earth. It certainly made some of our pupils feel quite travel sick.

Year 11 have had 1 to 1 interviews with leaders in the school to discuss their next steps and there will be further careers meetings with external advisors to help prepare them for their futures either at TENC college or beyond. We obviously have a journey before then.

Both year 10 and year 11 need to be making revision notes, practicing actual GCSE questions, structuring their answers and reading exam mark schemes. There are so many resources to use for example GCSE pod, Educake, MyMaths and BBC bitesize. Pupils should know their exam boards and consider buying revision guides to use at home in preparation for their GCSE examinations. We plan to have a stock in the library not only to buy but some to borrow too. In the next couple of weeks we will list the exam board information and provide you with top tips from departments.

Year 11 have their 1st set of mocks next month, reports will be issued in January followed by a parents evening. We will be very clear on what needs to happen in preparation for their second lot of mocks in March. The summer exam timetable is almost ready for release but if you are thinking of an early holiday for y11 please note 27/6 is the last official GCSE planned day.

Senior leaders have been evaluating our work once again and we continue to improve. Attendance figures are up which is so important for the team, if pupils are not at school they will be missing vital school work. So thank you for making sure that they are here and learning with us and not taking holidays in term time. Please can you make sure that pupils are wearing coats and/or black jumpers, not sports hoodies. Mr Middleton and the pastoral team will be monitoring this closely and reminding us of Team Rushden expectations. If pupils are coming to school on bikes they need to take care especially as it is getting darker sooner. They must be visible, wearing a helmet and riding sensibly! We will educating them on road safety at school but if you could discuss this at home too. Let’s keep our youngsters safe.

Many thanks for reading
