This week our Academy Improvement Board (AIB) was set up with Tim Foster taking the Chair of the board. Later in the bulletin you will see a letter from Tim, I am really looking forward to working with the AIB as we continue to forge forward.

This week Team Rushden received a glowing email from Spendlove, the company who maintain our school grounds. They work with 50 other schools and have been established for around 30 years. I am grateful that they took the time to email us and pay compliments about our school site having a lack of litter, they also praised our cheerful, smartly dressed staff & students. We always set high standards of ourselves and collectively Team Rushden aim to be the best we can be. This is time and again recognized by visitors to the school. Our pupils are polite, they smile, they open doors and greet people and they are really helpful.

Year 11s have conducted themselves impeccably so far over the exam period, staff have worked incredibly hard delivering intervention lessons and so I hope they achieve what the deserve to. Today I saw year 11 boys sitting ever so quietly in the playground after their game of lunchtime football. When I asked why they said it was pretty much their last game and they couldn’t believe it. Staff comment that they have been an amazing bunch, Miss Neville is very proud of them and I think we will have lots of tears at the leavers’ assembly on Friday 15th June.

Our sixth formers are in full exam mode too, it is great that almost 100% have been offered university places. I have everything crossed that they will achieve well, they certainly did last year. Rushden Academy (part of TENC) were ranked 4th in the County, out of 71other schools for the best progress at A level (https://tinyurl.com/ya3yobzg)

Year 10’s are really stepping up, the number of Head Boy and Head Girl applicants has been staggering and the way they have approached the rigorous selection process has been stunning. There will be senior prefects and prefects appointed to take a lead and have a say with our academy improvements. The existing prefect team and student forum have been instrumental in bringing about change this year, a couple of examples include uniform changes and having more benches around school. Their work is not over as we are about to have a huge make over internally and their input will be crucial.

Lovely to see all year groups stepping up, the sunny weather seems to have made them all grow, this usually happens over the summer holidays but I think it’s started already!

Have a good weekend and enjoy reading the rest of the bulletin.
