We have had another fun-packed week at Rushden Academy!

The year 5 taster days were excellent and the pupils enjoyed learning new skills in ADT, Science and PE. Parents had the opportunity to listen to a talk, see a presentation and tour the school. It was thoroughly rewarding seeing pupils and teachers working hard in their lessons. Not only have we had visits from y5’s this week but we have also welcomed some y6 pupil’s and their parents; it is such an exciting time for us all as we see our school grow from strength to strength.

This week Team Rushden went on the enterprise trip to MK Dons, they came back buzzing with bags packed with freebies for example school equipment and even pots of porridge? It was a great opportunity for our pupils to talk to people about possible careers and even change a formula 1 tyre. Thank you Mr Brotherston for arranging.

The Tove transfer is due to complete on the 1st April, I am very much looking forward to their input. In fact we have had much input already and are witnessing the difference.

We are forever improving our site and the new fencing is almost complete, we plan to move the public reception area to the vocational building during the Easter holidays, but we will keep you posted. Pupil reception will remain where it currently is.

It is vital that we keep y11 focussed. They are worried about their forth coming exams, as are y11s across the country. They need to use their revision guides, practise exam questions and techniques. They need to keep up the ‘can-do’ attitude and ‘self-belief!’ Be strict with their time and ensure many ‘power hours’ are completed learning the content and making revision notes. In fact, there is no reason why all year groups shouldn’t be doing this and testing themselves on a regular basis.

I believe that we are a much happier school, we will not tolerate bullying at our school and we will issue severe sanctions. Together we must uphold Team Rushden values, when we signed our anti-bullying charter, it was done with meaning and purpose. Always report any issues so that we can swiftly act and eradicate concerns.

Have a good weekend.

Mrs J Burton
