Building work around site is well under way now and will continue throughout February so if you do have an appointment booked at the Hair & Beauty centre please do take extra care when on site.

Tove Trust have visited again this week, we are already making strong connections with Sponne School and have an amazing opportunity to learn from the best and gain resources to use. Team Rushden are absolutely determined to continue raising standards and firmly believe that team work is crucial, we want all our stakeholders to play a part in our journey to outstanding J2O. We have a vibrant student body that make decisions for our school and we want a larger parent forum who are willing to get involved in aspects of school decision making too. If you are interested in joining a parent forum please contact: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more details.

Turning a school around takes time, last summer the Attainment 8 scores were much improved from a poor baseline, so more pupils gained a standard 4 GCSE (old C grade) than previous years. However, the government Progress 8 measure was not good, this means that pupils may have met a standard 4 but did not meet their target grades, which were higher.

We looked long and hard at our results and made some swift conclusions and rectified the situation instantly. Our curriculum was not good enough, too many pupils were entered for the Ebacc qualification. There were also some subjects where performance by students was poor and this year we took decisive action surrounding these areas by removing them from our curriculum offer and replacing them with equivalent GCSE subjects in which our students will find greater success. We have eradicated the use of supply teachers. We revisited teaching and learning and provided increased support and challenge in some areas. Behaviour is much improved, the school is a calm and purposeful place where learning comes first and teaching time is maximised. This school is in much better shape and bears no resemblance to how it was judged by Ofsted in July 2016. I can assure you that results will steadily increase, we have analysed current performance in all year groups and Team Rushden are doing much better. The 6th form continues to be a massive strength of the school and continues to provide good outcomes.

Teacher recruitment across the East Midlands is a challenge. So, it is excellent news to learn that our trainee teachers love it at Rushden Academy so much, that many do not wish to return to their home schools and have sought permission to remain with us. We will continue to grow our own and provide a wonderful working opportunity to retain and recruit the best. Our teacher trainees say that they feel supported, they believe that they are learning and growing professionally, they like the team approach and believe in Team Rushden. It is such an exciting time to be joining us, with the potential move to Tove Trust, the cpd programmes on offer to our staff, the extra-curricular provision we have and a nursery rated as outstanding on site, it really is a good place to work. We welcome outstanding teachers with high expectations to be part of Team Rushden as we move to good and continue this journey to outstanding.

I returned from a visit to an outstanding school to join Year 8 and Year 9 in a Hip Hop Shakespeare event. I then wandered across to the Main Hall to witness a dance extravaganza and spoke with many of our lovely pupils. It was heartening to see the journey we have come on, we have many more plans and interventions in the pipeline and with the determination we have, Rushden Academy will become the school that our community can be proud of.

Thank you for your support, it takes time to turn a school around but I can say that we are absolutely on track. Year 11 are well supported but need to work incredibly hard and revise using all the resources provided. They need to make use of the period 6s and the holiday classes. Please remember you are always very welcome to come and visit us and see first-hand what is happening at Rushden Academy and how different it now is.
