Another productive week and fantastic progress being made. Year 7, 8 & 9 data is looking incredibly positive and the year 7 parents evening last night was a triumph. The pupil helpers were just amazing, they guided parents and kept teachers happy with drinks and biscuits, they were a real credit to the school and, all in all, it was a really positive evening.

Next week we start the Y11 mock exams, pupils have been preparing well and there is a real drive to succeed. Our year 11’s are hungry for success, it made me smile tonight as we were seeing our pupils off site safely I reminded a group of year 11’s about the power hour where they focus solidly on revision and prep, their response was never mind a power hour, it’s more like power 3 hours! Excellent comeback.

Some of our pupils downloaded this app onto their phones: http://www.gojimo.com/ they evaluated it together and concluded that it was highly recommended for year 10, 11, 12 and 13 to download and use. Posters of the website will appear around school advertising this, maybe some of our bright sparks in Y7, 8 and 9 could get ahead of the game.

I would like to see more literacy practice, correct spelling and punctuation is a crucial life skill and some of our youngsters need to improve on this. I would expect pupils to be writing more in their exercise books, nowadays exam papers contain many more longer written answers rather than one word answers, so pupils need to be immersed in writing continuously. Reading for pleasure is another important skill, our library is always packed at lunchtime; it is probably because our librarians make it fun. I would love to hear what books our pupils received in their Christmas stockings, and challenge them to write a review of it - I will award prizes for the best in the new year. We will display all reviews on the book club wall in the library. If all entries could be handed into the library during the first week back, that would be great.

Enjoy your weekend, maybe putting up the Christmas Tree!
