Dear Parents and Carers,

I write this editorial in the half-term break after an incredibly intense and rewarding first seven weeks as Principal of Rushden Academy. The new team and myself have relished every day and believe that each week has resulted in a significant step forward for the Academy.

Firstly I would like to thank all students. They are the true stars of Team Rushden and have fully embraced the new culture and ethos that we demand and passionately believe in: positive discipline, respectful behaviour, hard work, resilience and absolute respect to others. I see examples of the Team Rushden ethos every time I walk round the Academy and it is great to celebrate student success in our daily assemblies.

Secondly I would like to thank the staff. I presented us all with seven demands on 1st September – they are meeting them all and each week I am able to write a Principal’s Log of what has been achieved in relation to the goals we have set ourselves. They all know that I will accept nothing less than the best and absolutely share this commitment to excellence. Where we have fallen short, there has been absolute honest and transparency to fix and improve. They have truly earned this half-term break and I know they will be raring to go again on the 1st November – Day 36 on our rapid journey, determined to make this the best school in the area; the community deserves and requires nothing less.

Finally, I wish to thank parents and carers. The representations at our Meet the New Leadership Team evening in September were passionate, heartfelt and extremely fair. The positive feedback since then is so valued in ensuring that we keep focussed on doing what is right to transform the Academy. Turn-out and feed back from Open Evening were both excellent.

There is an old saying that it takes an entire community to successfully educate a child. We are building such a community around Rushden Academy and will settle for nothing less than excellence.

Thank you for all of your support.

Mark Stenton

Principal
